Originally formed in 2017 amidst a series of Seattle house shows, it has been an exciting year for Coach Phillips since the self-release of their ‘Learning How to Swim’ EP in 2018. After receiving modest support from blogs and college radio outlets, the EP gained national exposure by spring via a feature on NPR Music's ‘Heavy Rotation’ series. Invigorated by the support, Coach Phillips has continued writing, recording, playing shows in Seattle and throughout western WA. Activity over the last year included: recording a follow-up LP ‘Never Is Enough’, supporting bills and local festivals with PNW-favs Sloucher, Great Grandpa, Kelli Schaefer, and Naked Giants, as well as supporting Seattle tour stops for international bands like New Zealand’s The Beths (on their ‘Future Me Hates Me’ US release tour). Subsequently, the most melancholy track from ‘Learning How to Swim’—“Lake MI (Dream)”—was playlisted by The Beths among their favorite songs from 2018. Coach Phillips will be on a west coast tour in summer 2019 in support of 'Never is Enough' (out June 5th on Den Tapes).
